Not many people know that the song writer, Bobbie Gentry, made a hit of this song in the mid 1960s. I grew up singing that song and was so surprised when Reba did it. Most of the time Reba gets all the credit for the song though. I wish everyone could hear the original sung by Bobbie Gentry. I still have it on a 45 vinyl record but I don't know if there has ever been a compilation CD with it on there.Bobbie Gentry was a great songwriter. She also wrote the song "Ode to Billie Joe" which was later made into a movie.
