Throughout the entire performance, Oberst and the band keep the mood in the studio light with things like keyboardist Nate Walcott playing a canned applause track after each song. At one point, Oberst asks Walcott to play something else instead of applause.
"Like what? Boos?" asks Walcott.
"No," says Oberst, "I've heard enough of that. Play some monkey sounds." Which makes sense, as Oberst later said that if he wasn't a musician, the one job he'd like to have is as a zookeeper.
