How to Calm Your Fearful Dog

Jan 25th 2012 8:25AM Our Lab-mix is 9 years old and has always been terrified of thunder. He once broke his invisible fence and ran about 5 miles before seeking shelter under someone's porch. Fortunately, with his dog tag they called us and he was brought home. It is so bad that now even if we have rain (without lightning) he trembles. Our veterinarian gave us some pills to give him but in reading the instructions it indicates that a pill will "knock him out" for about 8 hours! Considering that a storm is, at it's worst, a couple of hours long and much more likely about 20 minutes, I just can't see knocking him out for 8 hours! Storms are the only time we allow him to get in bed with us because it is the only thing that seems to comfort him, although he will still tremble in fear. Any ideas?

Jul 16th 2011 7:20PM I do not disagree that it is the parent's obligation to parent (determine what will be viewed in the household) but it is also true that there are virtually no chanels (other than faith-based networks) offering family-oriented, patriotic, wholesome entertainment. Profanity, adultry, violence....just go down the Ten Commandments and check them off, one by one; they are all blatantly violated and that violation is celebrated. The corruption of the values of the past is DEMANDED by those misusing the "Freedom of Speech" amendment. For them, the country cannot become too corrupted.

May 16th 2011 12:34PM How does an 8-year old even muster up a wrinkle? Any 8-year old I have ever been around has a soft-as-butter, flawless skin. She isn't old enough for hormones to cause blemishes and she certainly has enough natural mositurizer to insure the flexability skin needs to avoid wrinkles. This sounds like a mother doing something totally outrageous in order to attract attention.

Mar 8th 2011 10:42AM I am beginning to agree with my husband; what's so great about Frank Lloyd Wright? I'm nearly 70 year old. Of the many homes I have seen, few leave me more unimpressed than Frank Lloyd Wright. A typical 1930's bungalow shows every bit as much imagination in design as his structures (with the possible exception being "Falling Waters".) But a single good design should not a career make.
