PRO: Matt Damon has played everything from a Boston brainiac to a mafia mole. With a little work, he might make a convincing rock god.

CON: It would take a LOT of work. Dude may be a little too clean to walk in Kurt's grungy shoes.

CHARLIZE THERON

PRO: Playing Courtney Love might be the kind of artistic stretch the 'Monster' babe could use for cred with the kids.

CON: Charlize already tried to connect with the kids as 'Aeon Flux.' She failed.

ROBERT DOWNEY JR.

PRO: Robert Downey Jr., tinsel-town's top party boy, could bring a striking level of authenticity to Cobain's battle with drugs.

CON: He'd bring a striking level of authenticity to Cobain's battle with drugs ... to the set.

SIENNA MILLER

PRO: Jude Law's former flame played Warhol muse Edie Sedgwick in 'Factory Girl.' She could definitely play Cobain's muse.

CON: Despite Sienna Miller's efforts, the film received less-than-stellar reviews. It was largely her fault.

REESE WITHERSPOON & RYAN PHILLIPPE

PRO: Reese & Ryan can draw tumultuous inspiration from their now-defunct relationship. And who knows, maybe they can actually work their kinks out on the set.

CON: Honestly, they might just be too nice. And cute.

RYAN GOSLING

PRO: Ryan Gosling played a cool, hot, drug-addict teacher in 'Half Nelson' ... and got an Oscar nom for his efforts.

CON: All of his edginess is negated by 'The Notebook.' Kurt's tale is not a chick-flick.

DAKOTA FANNING

PRO: It would be funny as hell. And she'd actually be GOOD.

CON: Dakota Fanning's not even old enough to know what teen spirit smells like.

PETER SARSGAARD

PRO: Peter Sarsgaard is a great actor ('Jarhead' anyone?), but most importantly, he does the best "serious face" in all of Hollywood, hands down.

CON: Kurt's "serious face" was poignant and sad. Peter's is just creepy!

JULIETTE LEWIS

PRO: The rock grrl has dated myriad famous men and has a mysterious loose cannon factor similar to Courtney's. And she hasn't made a movie in forever.

CON: Juliette Lewis is far too skinny for Courtney's bloated "bad" years.

DOMINIC MONAGHAN

PRO: We wouldn't have pictured hobbit No. 4, Dominic Monaghan, as a heroin-addicted rocker -- until he played a heroin-addicted rocker on 'Lost.' Now it doesn't seem like a stretch.

CON: If you had a cushy job on a Hawaiian beach, would you leave it to chill in Seattle? Neither would we.

KATE BOSWORTH

PRO: Nothing like having the current Hollywood "it" girl in your flick to drive up ticket sales.

CON: Actually ... we thing Kate Bosworth's sort of perfect (in general, AND for the role). Call her agent!

HAYDEN CHRISTENSEN

PRO: 'Revenge of the Sith' proved Hayden Christensen has the angry-young-man act down.

CON: 'Attack of the Clones' proved he can't act for crap.

AMY POEHLER

PRO: Amy Poehler is one of the funniest and most compelling cast members in 'Saturday Night Live' history, and she excels at playing big, loud characters.

CON: It would only work if Will Farrell was cast as Kurt.

KATE & PETE

PRO: They ARE sort of the Kurt & Courtney of the new generation -- except without the revolutionary rock anthems, raw talent or scope of influence. But they've got the drug part down!
