Beyonce's Father Rips 'Childish' Aretha

(Feb. 14) - Beyonce's father and manager, Mathew Knowles, has now lashed out against Aretha Franklin in defense of his daughter over a remark she made at the Grammy Awards.

"Something this ridiculous -- it's childish, it's unprofessional," Mathew Knowles said in a statement Thursday, via PEOPLE. "And it's a sad day when egos get bruised because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess."

On Tuesday, the longtime Queen of Soul slammed Knowles' intro to Tina Turner at Sunday's ceremony, in which Knowles called Turner, not Franklin, "the queen."

"I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyonce," Franklin said in a statement issued by her publicist. "However, I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy."

In the first few seconds of Knowles' intro to Turner's performance, she name-dropped Franklin and a long list of famed female singers. Then the "Crazy in Love" chanteuse focused on Turner.

"There is one legend who has the essence of all of those things: the glamour, the soul, the passion, the strength, the talent," said Knowles, strutting in hot pants. "Ladies and gentlemen. Stand on your feet and give it up for the queen."

Mathew Knowles said he doesn't understand why Franklin is upset about the word's use.

"Not queen of gospel, queen of soul, queen of blues, Queen of England. I consider my wife a queen and sometimes call her that. Does Aretha have a problem with that?" Knowles said.

Known for such hits as "Respect" and "Chain of Fools," Franklin tied with the Clark Sisters for best gospel performance trophy for her duet "Never Gonna Break My Faith" with Mary J. Blige.

First off, I don't need someone telling what I can and cannot talk about. It was a lovely attempt. I never said the first thing about white people not being wrong in Slavery, my simple statement was that blacks sold their own people into Slavery. I highly doubt any of you idiots that commented on my posting have even made it to college, but might you attempt it? I'm actually taking history until 1866 as we speak. We've learned about the Middle Passage and etc. But let's face it, stupidity from blacks as well as whites allowed for Slavery to take place. I think that Aretha Franklin has more class than Beyonce. She has never gotten up and stage and shook everything she has like a $2 prostitute. You don't have to do that to sell records and besides Beyonces' voice could never compare to Aretha.
