Velvet Revolver First Listen

The Lowdown

Lock up your daughters! Velvet Revolver, rock's ultimate supergroup, is back.

Once again, Scott Weiland (Stone Temple Pilots), Slash, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum (Guns N' Roses) and Dave Kushner (Wasted Youth) have returned to give rock 'n' roll a swift kick in the ass with their rough and raunchy sound.

The band's upcoming release, 'Libertad,' is the follow-up to their 2004 Grammy-winning, multi-platinum debut, 'Contraband.' We got Scott and Slash to talk about their first single, ''She Builds Quick Machines,' plus previews of three more songs. Tell us if you think they have a hit on their hands before the album drops on July 3.

    Hot or Not

      You Decide

        Slash on the Songs:

"We felt no limits. We had the freedom to play whatever we felt like playing. 'Libertad' has a much more expressive, spontaneous feel. I was able to do a lot of stuff off the cuff -- the solo on 'She Builds Quick Machines' was the first one I played. The whole rhythm of how Scott sings that is something none of us were expecting."

          'She Builds Quick Machines'
"The songs started out being very personal, but they took on a more universal truth as they were nurtured by the five-headed beast that is Velvet Revolver. I want to tell stories about the world I see and how it affects all of us. With this album, I was making the microcosmic macrocosmic."

          'The Last Fight'
"'The Last Fight' is about a man dealing with a broken relationship at home while he's dealing with the relationship between himself and a war he's stuck in the middle of on the front lines far overseas."

          'Spay'
"'Spay' is about the mass over consumerism, celebrity consumption and the increasingly lower standards of the media in our disposable society."

          'She Mine'
" 'She Mine' is about bipolar disorder."
