The Lowdown
It's been four years since Hollywood darling Mandy Moore devoted time to her music career -- but it was worth the wait. Since she's been gone, Mandy has openly dissed the bubblegum pop of her early career. Soon she'll return with 'Wild Hope,' a more organic, authentic record that she's says she's been waiting eight years to make.
We got Mandy to talk about some of her new songs and the emotional experience of writing and recording them. Listen to her first single, 'Extraordinary,' plus previews of four more songs from the album, set to drop on June 19, and tell us if you think she's got a hit on her hands.

'Extraordinary' "There are times when everyone hits a point of wanting and knowing they can go beyond what they deem their limits to be. Personally, it took me a while to come to this conclusion and it was quite a bold move for me to make. I consider myself to be pretty shy and have trouble expressing myself in certain situations, so writing this song is one of the most honest, humble things I have ever done and said in my life. To anyone. It felt as good to sing it as it did to write it." ![]()
'All Good Things' "When we experience hardship with someone or a loss of someone, hopefully we can still rise to the occasion, cross our fingers and wish both sides an easy road ahead. I have learned that I get more from obstacles and pain by trying to move forward in a positive manner and expect that everyone else does the same in their own time. Sometimes we gotta move on." ![]()
'Looking Forward to Looking Back' "This is another song based on trying to make sense of things without any real hindsight. I think time is fascinating in the sense that it allows us to eventually reflect on situations in a totally different manner than how we presently see them. Again, this was written at a time of discovery and me gaining a lot of confidence, both in myself and in the future." ![]()
'Nothing That You Are' "[It's] one of the first songs I wrote for the record. My mindset clearly shows that! This collection of songs was written over a two-year period, therefore you can see the changing of attitudes I've had. I feel I had to get through some anger in my life in order to begin bringing in some hope and optimism. That is why this song still means a lot to me and has a definite significance to where I am two years later." ![]()
'Wild Hope' "I knew this was the title of the album when the Weepies and I first wrote it. It encompassed everything -- I mean EVERYTHING I have been writing about and coping with. Few things seem 100% permanent at this juncture in my life, and many times, there really is no other choice than to allow things to happen as they will and just wildly hope." ![]()
