Making the record:

"My main thing was that I wanted to write some songs on this, and wanted to make sure that we got some music out to the vast fan base that I've established through 'Idol.' A lot of people have been getting antsy, anticipating some music from me. We've really tried to focus on getting it out to the fans while not compromising any style or integrity."
Elliott on his sound:

"It's funny, a lot of these songs don't sound like your typical R&B songs. I think that I have a real soulful voice. Whatever I sing, I am going to put my real funky, soulful stamp on it. I think I'm still trying to figure out my genre. I would definitely say soul/R&B, but just not the typical type you hear today. I think my voice itself is a throwback and I just try to stay true to myself."

'Movin' On' "[This song] was produced by DJ Lethal with his main two guys, Oli and Ely. This is a song that was actually conceived before I left the American Idol Tour this past summer. I had laid down a rough vocal, and since then, everyone has been feeling it. It's a really upbeat mid-tempo song that you can dance to. I wrote the lyrics myself, and Oli wrote the hook. This was the first song that we got together and recorded." ![]()
'A Song for You' "This is obviously a cover by the great Leon Russell. It was a song that I did on 'American Idol' that did very well for me. I recorded this with producer Mike Mangini in New York. This song is just one of the one or possibly two covers on the album, and I think it's just a great piano/vocal song. A lot of the fans have been demanding that this was included just because it brought me a lot of success on the show. I really think everyone is going to feel our version." ![]()
'You Are the One' "This is a song that was also produced by DJ Lethal. I also got some help from Tony Race, who is based out of Atlanta, on lyrics, though I mostly wrote the whole thing. This is another song that I'm really proud of. I'm really honing in on my writing skills, and getting better as we go along. This song is kind of a heartfelt, slow to mid-tempo love song. It talks about finding the one that makes you complete. It's kind of like the big 'Jerry Maguire' quote, 'You complete me.' " ![]()
'Find a Way' "This is a great song that gets down and focuses one social awareness, about what's going on today with the war. We really had to get deep for a second, but it's an uplifting track. 'Find a Way' has a really cool hip-hop beat to it -- when it starts you don't really don't know what to expect. The song talks about letting love find a way in. Tony Race pretty much wrote the song and really wrote it beautifully. I can't wait for everyone to check it out." ![]()
