Infamous Rock Quotes -- Vanilla Ice
Whose Mouth Had a Foot in It?
"Theirs goes, 'Ding ding ding dingy ding-ding.' Ours goes, 'Ding ding ding ding dingy ding-ding.'"
-- Vanilla Ice, 1990

When Vanilla Ice articulated the one-note difference between his No. 1 smash 'Ice Ice Baby' and Queen and David Bowie's 1982 hit 'Under Pressure' to MTV, he was at the peak of his short-lived career. Thanks to 'Baby' -- and its familiar bass and piano parts -- his 'To the Extreme' album sold more than 11 million copies. Unfortunately for Ice, fronting about the obvious 'Under Pressure' sample destroyed what little credibility he had. (The rapper reportedly settled out of court with Queen and David Bowie to prevent a lawsuit.)
As the backlash grew, more than Ice’s creative genius was called into question. His stories about attending an all-black Florida high school and living a rugged life of crime were revealed to be tall tales (he had never been stabbed, and, whoops, he went to school in Texas). Several career meltdowns ensued, with Ice trying everything from nu-metal to reality television. He's currently touring in support of his new CD, which sums up his career trajectory in two words: 'Platinum Underground.'
