Did anybody really think that a guy who once rapped through a wired jaw would stick to a teleprompter? When NBC pointed its cameras on Kanye West during its Hurricane Katrina live telethon, the crap hit the fan... and a little even got on his visibly stunned on-air partner Mike Myers. In an impromptu rant, West blasted the relief efforts, the media coverage and -- right before the camera cut away -- the president.
NBC quickly released a statement distancing itself from West's comments. A week later, Kanye was booed when he performed at -- ironically enough -- a Patriots football game. Six months later, after much of the nation's outrage over Katrina caught up to West's, there were no marks left on his trademark pink Polo, as he collected three Grammys for his 'Late Registration' CD. During his acceptance speeches, West steered clear of politics, but, not taking any chances, CBS broadcast the awards on a several-second delay.
