Infamous Rock Quotes -- Dixie Chicks

"We're ashamed the president of the United States is from Texas."

Read Dixie Chicks' famous quote about the president

And it was with this statement that many country fans became ashamed of the Dixie Chicks. Nine days before the War in Iraq began, singer Natalie Maines drew cheers when she aired her disgust for the U.S. commander in chief at a London concert. However, back in the Chicks' home country -- especially down in Dixie -- flag wavers mobilized against them, prompting almost 30% of country radio stations to temporarily ban their music. KRMD FM in Shreveport, La., went so far as to organize a bulldozer crush of the group's CDs.

The Chicks suffered a sharp decline in record sales and were booed at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Although Maines did apologize to President Bush, she and the Chicks joined the anti-administration Vote for Change tour the following year. And the trio has hardly spent 2006 campaigning to win back their alienated fans: Fiddle player Martie Maguire told a German interviewer that the country scene is not their home anymore, and they not-so-subtly titled their new single 'Not Ready to Make Nice.'
