Nelly Furtado Interview Part 2
Go back to part 1
NellyLoveTim: oh...well I have a good sense of humor
NellyLoveTim: the word loose describes the way that I feel when I make hip-hop and r&b music....really relaxed and free....just not thinkin too much
NellyLoveTim: and also, I think I am a musically promiscuous girl. I am not faithful to one style of music.
AOLMusicTye: that's definitely true. you've worked with so many people over the years.
AOLMusicTye: how'd you and Tim get together in the first place
NellyLoveTim: well, Tim and I have been collaborating together since we hooked up for that Missy Elliott remix of 'Get Ur Freak On' some years back...and he did some other remixes for me that were hits
NellyLoveTim: so i flew to Miami to cut one track and then it turned into ten!!!!!! I was havin so much fun, ya know?
NellyLoveTim: originally, Tim sampled a piece of my music called 'baby girl' from my album 'Whoa, Nelly!!' i was honored. I came into the studio to listen to it, and within minutes i was in the vocal booth, jamming away.
AOLMusicTye: So you two hit it off right off the bat....
NellyLoveTim: i think that I am very blessed to have met him because we really click. Tim says it is just like musical destiny, and I believe that to be true.
NellyLoveTim: I have always felt that he is like my distant musical cousin. we are both quirky and irreverent... we both like to push boundaries with our music, conceptually and musically
NellyLoveTim: I like anybody who beats their own path, marches to their own drum.
AOLMusicTye: speaking of which, you also got Chris Martin to work some magic in the studio, right?
AOLMusicTye: On the track 'All Good Things'
AOLMusicTye: that session must have been crazy
NellyLoveTim: Yes, working with Chris was truly amazing because i had never really jammed with him before.
NellyLoveTim: He is very soulful, and very humble. We met at a festival in Scotland way back when, and i bumped into him in Miami at the MTV music video awards.
NellyLoveTim: He really wanted to meet Tim and watch him work after i mentioned that I was working with him... So he came by the studio, and at first, Tim and him were acting really nervous around each other. Tim is also a huge Coldplay fan, so it added to the mutual admiration society vibe.
NellyLoveTim: I had to remind them that we were all there to make music, and that they should sit their butts down with some instruments.
AOLMusicTye: Hahaha.
NellyLoveTim: One thing that is interesting about Tim is that he really knows how to bring out something different in an artist, just by his mere presence. Chris definitely pulled out some crazy stuff...he is one of the most gifted writers in the biz.
NellyLoveTim: i love to feel like Joan Baez in the corner of the jam, witnessing all the greatness, hoping I can learn something from it.
NellyLoveTim: it is all about music for me at the end of the day. it is about becoming better and those rich experiences that make a musical life worth living!!!
AOLMusicTye: also nice to see Justin pop up in the 'Promiscuous' video.
AOLMusicTye: you two have more plans to hook up in the future???
AOLMusicTye: musically or otherwise ;)
