ThirtySecondLeto: thanks for having me
TyeinMusic: where are you at right now?
ThirtySecondLeto: nyc
TyeinMusic: cool. what brought your 30 Seconds to Mars to the big apple?
ThirtySecondLeto: well, we played last night in providence rhode island and we stopped here for the day to talk with you
TyeinMusic: great. how's the tour coming so far?
ThirtySecondLeto: amazing. sold out shows all across the country
TyeinMusic: do you dig being on the road?
ThirtySecondLeto: the road is great. we are very fortunate to have an amazing live following. It’s more like a family really
TyeinMusic: nice.
TyeinMusic: so, tell us a bit about the new album
ThirtySecondLeto: yes. It’s called A BEAUTIFUL LIE. It’s our second cd and we are very very proud of it
TyeinMusic: your brother is in the band too, right?
ThirtySecondLeto: yep. he plays the drums. He’s an animal
TyeinMusic: any sibling rivalries going on onstage?
TyeinMusic: fights over groupies, etc?
ThirtySecondLeto: we try to keep that off the stage at the very least
TyeinMusic: lol
TyeinMusic: probably for the best
ThirtySecondLeto: groupies went out with parachute pants…unfortunately
TyeinMusic: hahaha. well, no worries -- they'll be back in style in 20 years
ThirtySecondLeto: I’m patient
TyeinMusic: is it difficult balancing your music career with your film career?
ThirtySecondLeto: it can be. There’s only so much time in a day so…
ThirtySecondLeto: you have to make sacrifices
TyeinMusic: which one is your FIRST love?
ThirtySecondLeto: painting
TyeinMusic: really? that's cool
TyeinMusic: what's the last painting you did?
ThirtySecondLeto: i do the majority of the design for 30secondstomars so i get fulfilled that way
TyeinMusic: ah, a mixing of the worlds.
TyeinMusic: very convenient.
TyeinMusic: so, let’s chat about the new film, Chapter 27
ThirtySecondLeto: sure
TyeinMusic: you play Mark David Chapman, the dude that shot Lennon
TyeinMusic: how much weight did you have to gain for the role?
ThirtySecondLeto: 62+ lbs
TyeinMusic: wow.
TyeinMusic: how did you do that? cheeseburgers and fries every meal?
ThirtySecondLeto: i basically ate everything that you think you are not supposed to. and then more.
ThirtySecondLeto: no burgers though. i don’t eat meat.
TyeinMusic: wow. your job is so hard
TyeinMusic: :)
ThirtySecondLeto: it may sound like fun to some people, but it wasn’t at all. the first 45 lbs took 7 weeks. after the second week of force feeding yourself, any enjoyment you think you might of had goes right out the window.
TyeinMusic: how did you get inside Chapman’s head?
ThirtySecondLeto: research
TyeinMusic: did you play Beatles albums backwards and stuff?
ThirtySecondLeto: yes i did.
ThirtySecondLeto: i traveled and visited his life in a way
TyeinMusic: were you a huge Lennon fan before taking the role?
ThirtySecondLeto: i think that the beatles music and the music of john lennon is an important part of all of our lives in way. but yes I’ve always admired john’s art and spirit.
