Chris Daughtry Interview Part 2
Go back to part 1
DaughtryRockIdol: i approached this project the way i would have if i had never gone on the show
DaughtryRockIdol: i am who i am and i want that to show through my music.
DaughtryRockIdol: the only diff now is i got to work with amazing songwriters and, in my opinion, one of the greatest rock producers of our day
DaughtryRockIdol: i may not have had the opportunity to work with them otherwise
TyeInMusic: so who were the heavy hitters in the studio with you?
DaughtryRockIdol: Mitch Allen from sr71
DaughtryRockIdol: Brian Howes who produced the new Hinder album
DaughtryRockIdol: Ben Moody
DaughtryRockIdol: to name a few
TyeInMusic: nice roll call :)
TyeInMusic: can't wait to hear how it all turned out
TyeInMusic: so you decided to name the band Daughtry
TyeInMusic: must have taken a loooong time to come up with one ;)
DaughtryRockIdol: i didn't want to come out as Chris Daughtry because i didn't want to be a solo artist
DaughtryRockIdol: and coming off the show, if i did an obscure band name, people wouldn't recognize it
DaughtryRockIdol: and i didn't want it to be called the Chris Daughtry Band, so we just went with Daughtry
TyeInMusic: why no desire to be solo?
TyeInMusic: why not keep all the glory for yourself?
DaughtryRockIdol: I've always been in bands and whenever i think of a solo artist, i think of pop
DaughtryRockIdol: I've been inspired by great bands and all I've ever wanted to do was be in a successful rock band
TyeInMusic: the last band you were in before Idol was Absent Element
TyeInMusic: did any of those guys make the cut for the new band?
DaughtryRockIdol: i requested that my original guys got priority auditions
DaughtryRockIdol: only 2 from absent element showed interest, so we had other spots to fill.
DaughtryRockIdol: management/label held open auditions and they feel that they have identified the best players for the band.
DaughtryRockIdol: Although they honored my request, my original members did not make the cut. I'm still good friends with all those guys and there are no hard feeling.
DaughtryRockIdol: however two guys from my hometown of Greensboro NC did make the band
TyeInMusic: well, at least there are some hometown boys in the crew :)
DaughtryRockIdol: yeah I'm happy about that
TyeInMusic: speaking of successful rock bands, everyone knows you got an offer to front Fuel after Idol
TyeInMusic: how long did you consider that before turning them down?
DaughtryRockIdol: well when i was on the show i couldn't do anything about it and by the time the season was over, i had the opportunity to do my own album with my own band and my songwriting
DaughtryRockIdol: i didn't think it would be a wise move to go into an already established band
DaughtryRockIdol: i wanted the world to hear what i had to say
TyeInMusic: makes perfect sense.
TyeInMusic: so, is there anything you miss about being on TV every week?
DaughtryRockIdol: no because the thing for me was about being on stage in front of an audience and i got to do that all summer.
DaughtryRockIdol: the only difference was that i didn't have cameras in front of my face when i was performing
TyeInMusic: what aspect of being famous has been the most difficult to get used to?
Interviews? Chris tells us next.
