    Bucky Covington Interview

    AOLMusicBeville: Hi Bucky!
    BuckyinNashville: hello Beville!
AOLMusicBeville: where are you right now?
    BuckyinNashville: New York City
AOLMusicBeville: nice! what are you doing up here in the big city?
BuckyinNashville: I am doing the Regis and Kelly show along with a lot of other press
AOLMusicBeville: I hope you have at least a little free time to have fun up here
BuckyinNashville: Are you asking me out?
    AOLMusicBeville: ha!
BuckyinNashville: Is that yes or no?
AOLMusicBeville: you are such a flirt.
    BuckyinNashville: :)
AOLMusicBeville: I would ask you out, but I hear you have a date with Elliott Yamin later
BuckyinNashville: Yes, I am going to go get my CD signed...
AOLMusicBeville: that is so cool that you buy your fellow contestants' CDs...
BuckyinNashville: I have actually bought all of them.
AOLMusicBeville: so you bought Kellie's too?
    BuckyinNashville: Kellie's what?
AOLMusicBeville: CD! Get your mind out of the gutter.
AOLMusicBeville: I hear you have some dirt on her
BuckyinNashville: Yes I do. None that I'll talk about. haha
AOLMusicBeville: not even the pot roast story?
BuckyinNashville: Oh I can talk about the pot roast story!
    AOLMusicBeville: so do tell.... :)
BuckyinNashville: My sister in law had made a pot roast
BuckyinNashville: Me and Kellie got back from riding the bike...
BuckyinNashville: We were eating the pot roast with a spoon on the stove...
AOLMusicBeville: no plates involved, huh? family style!
BuckyinNashville: She started taking the spoon (who needs them) and feeding my dog with it!
BuckyinNashville: And then she would eat after the dog!
    AOLMusicBeville: now that is country
BuckyinNashville: no. that is Kellie. :)
AOLMusicBeville: so you have an 'Idol' posse down there in Nashville . . . with Kellie, Josh and Carrie. Do you get to hang out a lot?
BuckyinNashville: I talk to Kellie a lot and also Bo Bice every so often. I don't stay in touch with the other two. Carrie's too busy.
AOLMusicBeville: well, you're pretty busy yourself . . .promoting your new album!
BuckyinNashville: Yes I am. But it is a good thing.
AOLMusicBeville: all of the songs on there seem to really suit your personality. Did you spend a lot of time choosing songs that you could relate to?
BuckyinNashville: Yes I did. And the best part of it is, is that each one of them I do relate to.
BuckyinNashville: Thank God for a great label and great producers.
AOLMusicBeville: I especially love the first single 'Different World.' It really took me back to my childhood. Tell us the story behind that song
BuckyinNashville: Doug Howard at Lyric Street pitched the song to me and as soon as I heard it I immediately remembered back when I was little.
BuckyinNashville: The songwriter who co-wrote A Different World also wrote another track on the album: "I'm Good."
AOLMusicBeville: It must've been so cool to work with Mark Miller as your producer. That guy has more energy than a Red Bull.
BuckyinNashville: haha. He so does. He cuts up like a flat tire!
AOLMusicBeville: how'd you hook up with him?
BuckyinNashville: He actually called me the day after I was "invited to leave" the show.
AOLMusicBeville: I wanna see you adopt some of his dance moves
BuckyinNashville: I've been working on that!
BuckyinNashville: I played some shows with him and I mimick him on stage. He loves it!
AOLMusicBeville: who's the coolest celebrity to approach you since 'Idol'?
BuckyinNashville: I met Billy Bob Thorton which was really cool. Dave Chapelle. Shooter Jennings. Travis Tritt, just to name a few...
AOLMusicBeville: and I love the story of how you met Tracy Lawrence
    BuckyinNashville: oh yes...
BuckyinNashville: he actually came up behind and tapped me on the back and said "hey bucky, you probably don't know me but my name is Tracy Lawrence"
BuckyinNashville: I laughed and said "great to meet you"
AOLMusicBeville: he is one of the nicest guys in the business -- and obviously humble!
BuckyinNashville: he said "there is something I have to tell you..."
BuckyinNashville: I said "what's that?" . . . and he said "we were born to mothers who smoked and drank"
BuckyinNashville: and he was fixin to cut that song
AOLMusicBeville: he knew the song! you got lucky and snagged it first
BuckyinNashville: he actually said that he was hoping that would be his next "Time Marches On" but instead he said "hopefully it'll be a Time Marches On for you"
AOLMusicBeville: wow, that is really nice
AOLMusicBeville: what's your favorite song on your album?
BuckyinNashville: hard to say. Depends on the mood...
BuckyinNashville: I like them all because all of them relate to me
BuckyinNashville: One thing I like about country music is that the songs have always related to me
AOLMusicBeville: so what's the coolest venue you've played so far?
BuckyinNashville: I would have to say the Opry
BuckyinNashville: but every venue is a cool venue thanks to great fans
AOLMusicBeville: do you have any funny fan stories to tell?
BuckyinNashville: you always hear them say "i voted for you" or "you should have won" but this one fan said: "man i voted for you, you should have at least been in the top 6." haha!!!
    AOLMusicBeville: hahhahaha! that's great
AOLMusicBeville: I heard Pat Green was out campaigning for you
    BuckyinNashville: yes he was
AOLMusicBeville: especially after the 'Idol' episode where you sang his song, 'Wave on Wave'...one of my favorite songs ever
BuckyinNashville: Somebody's been doing their homework, Beville.
AOLMusicBeville: hahaha - well, I try
    BuckyinNashville: it shows. :)
BuckyinNashville: Pat was playing a rodeo...in Texas in front of about 70,000 people
BuckyinNashville: and he said "what about this guy Bucky Covington who sang my song on American Idol? Let's all give him a hand and vote for him!"
AOLMusicBeville: so, besides Pat and Mark...who are some of your musical heroes?
BuckyinNashville: Elvis, Kid Rock, Jeff Healey and too many country artists to name
AOLMusicBeville: who's your favorite to cover?
BuckyinNashville: Probably Elvis and Pat Green
AOLMusicBeville: either solo or with Southern Thunder?
BuckyinNashville: That's my country band in Rockingham!
AOLMusicBeville: (yep, i've done my homework)
AOLMusicBeville: you had a little taste of fame before Idol, right?
BuckyinNashville: Yes, it blew up quick within about a year. Everyone in my hometown knew me which was big for a local man.
AOLMusicBeville: did your mom and dad have to build a gate around their house?
    BuckyinNashville: haha. Not so much.
AOLMusicBeville: small town people are the best
BuckyinNashville: yes they are...big town people too. :)
AOLMusicBeville: are you flirting with me again? Ha :)
    BuckyinNashville: happy birthday!
BuckyinNashville: I've also done my homework
AOLMusicBeville: ha - thanks. Feels good to be 21 (again)
BuckyinNashville: again and again and again?
AOLMusicBeville: so I have to ask...are you watching Idol this season?
BuckyinNashville: I have been doing a lot of viewing parties at country radio
    AOLMusicBeville: any predictions for us?
BuckyinNashville: It's too early to judge
AOLMusicBeville: ok, who you think is the hottest contestant?
BuckyinNashville: I won't make that call. I want them to all like me. :)
AOLMusicBeville: ok, so answer this... If you had to have Randy, Paula or Simon over for pot roast, which one would you invite?
BuckyinNashville: duh! Paula if it's dinner...
AOLMusicBeville: she'd laugh at Kellie feeding pot roast to the dog. Simon...uh, not so much.
    BuckyinNashville: He'd probably critique it.
AOLMusicBeville: what advice to you have for Idol contestants...or Idol wannabes?
BuckyinNashville: my best advice would be to practice by recording yourself.
AOLMusicBeville: and how about taking criticism from the judges? is that hard? You seemed to take it all in stride with a great attitude
BuckyinNashville: A lot of practice with drunk people in bars... they'll say anything
    AOLMusicBeville: HA!
AOLMusicBeville: A lot of former Idols have dissed the show...failing to recognize the fame and success that it brought them. But you are very quick to defend the show and where it got you.
BuckyinNashville: For everything the show has done for me I could at least THANK them
    AOLMusicBeville: even Simon?
    BuckyinNashville: mostly Simon
BuckyinNashville: A lot of people watch the show to see what Simon is going to say
BuckyinNashville: for that reason, millions of people know me
AOLMusicBeville: that's a great way to look at it
BuckyinNashville: That's why I'm talking to you!
BuckyinNashville: You never would've answered my calls before...
    AOLMusicBeville: hahahaha!
AOLMusicBeville: so -- tell us about this joke you're about to go play on Elliott
BuckyinNashville: I bought his album today and I am going to try and get my money back.
    BuckyinNashville: He'll love it
AOLMusicBeville: he will laugh, I'm sure
AOLMusicBeville: as will everyone else in line behind ya
BuckyinNashville: He's got a great sense of humor and I hope they do too :)
AOLMusicBeville: well, thanks so much for joining us!
BuckyinNashville: Thanks for talking with me...FINALLY!
AOLMusicBeville: we really do love the album and don't even need to wish you luck, because we know you'll do great
    AOLMusicBeville: I'll call ya ;)
    BuckyinNashville: Whatcha gonna call me?
    AOLMusicBeville: ever the prankster, huh?
    BuckyinNashville: haha.
    BuckyinNashville: Had a great time
    AOLMusicBeville: thanks again!
    BuckyinNashville: Thank you!
