CD Review: YAKUZA Beyul

- Source: Metal Injection

Distressingly, the majority of Yakuza reviews still focus heavily on the alchemical influence the Chicago music scene has had on the band – noise rock, jazz, and industrial all writ large in the Windy City corpus – which is not so much erroneous as unfair, a fundamental if indeliberate underselling of what Bruce Lamont and his band mates bring to the table.

BBG CMJ showcase at Saint Vitus on 10/20 (a measly $5 door fee at the door if you didn't have a CMJ badge), sold-out the venue with an eclectic mix of bands that exemplified "heavy music" in many different ways: the searing post-rock/post-hardcore/black metal of Sannhet , brooding cello loops by Helen Money , crusty metallic-hardcore from Enabler , Am-Rep-y hardcore by Fight Amp , searing bluesy hard rock from Royal Thunder and experi-metal from Chicago's Yakuza (check out our recent interview with Bruce Lamont ).

SPECIAL SATURDAY MORNING INTERVIEW: YAKUZA’S BRUCE LAMONT

- Source: Metal Sucks

Back in August, I got a chance to talk with Yakuza front man Bruce Lamont about all things Yakuza, his band's stellar new album, Of Seismic Consequence (which is a contender for this curmudgeon's year-end "Best Of" list), his upcoming side projects and collaborations, his other fellow musicians from the Windy City, and Yakuza's then not-yet-announced tour with Triptykon and 1349 — a tour that is now under way.

The Eyes Have It: Exploring The Cosmic With Drum Eyes

- Source: The Quietus

You might better know Tokyo-born Brighton resident Shige as purveyor of snide earworm electronic experimentation in the guise of DJ Scotch Egg; Drum Eyes, by contrast, is an ever-growing beast, Shige pulling in members of various other bands (a former Boredom here, a Sloath there) to help realise his vision.
