Weapon of Choice grew out of the ashes of Marshall Law, the band that gave the Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist Arik Marshall, albeit briefly. Arik's brother Lonnie "Meganut" Marshall put together his own collective, Weapon of Choice, which plays a style dubbed "nutmeg" -- a mix of socially metaphorical lyrics, rock, reggae, funk (particularly George Clinton), hip-hop, and jazz drawing inspiration from a similar freewheeling musical hybrid pioneered by Fishbone. In fact, Marshall has played with Fishbone side projects like Trulio Disgracias. In addition to bassist/vocalist Marshall and co-founder Keefus Ciancia on keyboards, Weapon of Choice includes singer Audra Cunningham, singer Mark Cross, guitarist Finn Hammer, trombonist Tom-bone Ralls, and drummer Derek "D-Rek" Pierce. The band released its debut album, Nutmeg Sez "Bozo the Town, in 1993, and followed it with 1995's Highperspice. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide
