A multi-instrumentalist master of rock, soul, pop and funk, Dayton, Ohio's Van Hunt had spent a large chunk of the '90′s and early '00′s helping craft material for organic R&B favorites like Dionne Farris, Joi and Rahsaan Patterson before dropping his 2004 self-titled debut , an impressive, eclectic affair that won over critics, Grammy voters, and soul lovers alike while positioning him as a new-generation Curtis/ Prince/ Stevie; unfortunately, despite its potential, the album (and its equally acclaimed follow-up, 2006′s On The Jungle Floor ) failed to make much of a commercial impact in a world favoring more slicker, hip hop-derived R&B acts, leading to a series of behind-the-scenes industry happenings (including label shifts and shelved recordings) that eventually pushed him off of most folk's radar.
