
Before he was signed to Voicez/Universal Def Jam, rapper Troy Ave was spending his time and any extra money he had recording his music and selling his mixtapes on the streets of Brooklyn, where he was born and raised (his moniker even comes from a road in the Brownsville neighborhood he grew up in). Thanks to Voicez's affiliation with BET, Ave was able to get the video for his song "Rep It wit My Heart" on the show Rap City, even though he had yet to release anything officially, which brought him immediate attention in the mainstream rap community. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
