From Eden With Love: Everything But The Girl Interviewed

Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt met each other quite accidentally at Hull University 30 years ago, while both were already making indie waves with their first albums (Tracey as part of Marine Girls – incidentally one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands - and Ben solo, collaborating with Robert Wyatt and the like) on legendary indie Cherry Red. They became Everything But The Girl, naming themselves after a motto on Turner's furniture shop in Hull (don't look for it – it's not there anymore) and combining their array of distinctly non-rock influences to create their debut album Eden. They pretty much evolved their sound each album onwards until 1999's Temperamental , and stopped being Everything But The Girl in 2000 so that Tracey could bring up the couple's children.
