Though the idea of Todd Terry moving from his garage/house foundation into the realm of electronica and drum'n'bass necessitates quite a jump in the minds of mainstream dance fans, Resolutions isn't as radical a change of direction as some might fear. Yes, the album includes by far the darkest material Terry has ever recorded, much closer to Grooverider than Masters at Work. Even amidst the breakbeats and laser-sharp effects, Terry's ineffable production style comes through again and again -- from the trademark vocal bridge on "Let It Ride" to the infectious drumrush on "Blackout," this is a Todd Terry album without a doubt. For a producer who'd arguably been doing very similar material for several years (albeit great sounding material), Resolutions is an excellent album, one that can bring his old fans back into the fold even while it generates an entirely new audience barely old enough to remember his most innovative tracks. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
Todd Terry's volume in the House Music Movement series includes a cool dozen of the tunes that have meant the most to him over the years, including quite a few of his own ("Ready for a New Day," "Somebody," and "Back to the Beat"), plus tracks by Shannon, Martha Wash, Kym Mazelle, and even a remix of the Lighthouse Family's "Question of Faith." It includes a bonus disc with interview material from fellow house legends Jesse Saunders, Little Louie Vega, and Frankie Knuckles. ~ Keith Farley, All Music Guide
Not quite as solid as Todd Terry's always excellent remixes and singles, Ready for a New Day still benefits from several collaborations, with divas Jocelyn Brown, Martha Wash, and Shannon, as well as male singers like Roland Clarke (from Urban Soul) and Bernard Fowler (the Peech Boys, Rolling Stones). The appearance of his previous single "Something Goin' On" is welcome, as are two tracks with moderate breakbeats. Though most of the album covers previous territory, that's hardly a problem for a producer of Terry's stature and longevity. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide
