The New York-based rock quartet the Cringe were formed by singer/songwriter/guitarist John Cusimano, guitarist Robb Levin, bassist Matt Powers, and drummer Shawn Pelton in the early 2000s and released their debut album, Scratch the Surface, on Listen Records in 2003. Tipping Point followed on February 20, 2007. Levin was replaced by guitarist James Rotondi (a former member of the bands Air and Mr. Bungle) and Powers by bassist Jonny Matias (formerly of Crash Moderns) prior to the release of the band's third album, Play Thing, on June 8, 2010. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
