The sweet and lush indie pop sounds of Chicago's the Changes formed around vocalist/guitarist Darren Spitzer, guitarist/vocalist David Rothblatt, bassist Rob Kallick, and drummer Jonny Basofin (everyone helps out on keys) in 2002. The following year they self-released two EPs, a self-titled one and First of May, to positive response; soon enough, the guys had themselves a nice little growing buzz, garnering high praise from critics and bloggers alike for their dynamic and melodic instincts. The Changes were the only unsigned band invited to play 2005's Lollapalooza, and following that successful gig, the band toured with acts like Stephen Malkmus, Ted Leo, the Walkmen, and Kaiser Chiefs. Eventually, the band hooked up with Drama Club Records to issue their self-produced debut full-length, Today Is Tonight, in the fall of 2006; a release through Kitchenware in the U.K. and Europe followed early the next year. ~ Corey Apar, Rovi
