Supergroups composed of technically "underground" heavy metal musicians don't come any closer to the surface of mainstream recognition than Shrinebuilder -- a project assembled by vocalist/guitarist Scott "Wino" Weinrich (the Obsessed, Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, the Hidden Hand, and others), vocalist/guitarist Scott Kelly of Neurosis (also vocals, guitar), bassist/vocalist Al Cisneros, of Sleep and Om, and Melvins drummer Dale Crover! That's right, "!". With their eponymous 2009 LP, the quartet commingled sonic elements drawn from all of their shared experience in heavy metal, doom, post-metal, and beyond, forging it all into five epic compositions of monolithic scope and unfathomable weight.
