East Bridgewater native Tom Everett Scott has played Tom Hanks 's protege in "That Thing You Do, Kate Capshaw 's lover in the Rockport-based romantic comedy "The Love Letter, and a governor on "Law & Order. Still, people are starting to recognize him for his latest role on television's "Southland, the cop drama that was dropped by NBC only to be saved by TNT. Scott told us by phone yesterday. In last season's finale on NBC, Scott's character was left for dead. He won't tell us what will happen to his Detective Russell Clarke when the show returns on TNT this season, but lucky viewers will get to see for themselves tonight at Ned Devine's when Scott and network reps screen an episode of the drama that won't air until March. Repeats of the show start on TNT on Jan. 12. Scott said that after mingling with fans, he'll catch up with some friends and family. Scott's mom, by the way, recently moved to Holden, which she likes - except for the ice. "We were on, you know, the South Shore. Now she's almost up to Vermont. Scott tells us that his ideal night in Boston - if he had more time (and it was summer) - would be a visit to Fenway Park (obviously) and a meal at Audubon Circle.
