Does James Brown need a string section? While some fans of soul music would argue that such a thing would do the Godfather of Soul as much good as carte blanche in the pharmacy, the question is largely rhetorical, a gimmick to introduce a violinist who seems to specialize in funky music. Richard Jones was part of the orchestra on Brown's famous Live at the Apollo recordings and has also cut tracks with a variety of performers including O.C. Smith and the Salsoul Orchestra. The violinist also chimes in on background vocals at some sessions. ~ Eugene Chadbourne, All Music Guide
