New Revocation Album Update: There Will Be Banjo

Although, as Heavy Blog is Heavy points out, there has been banjo on several metal songs in the past — including tunes by Mastodon and Between the Buried and Me — it was Taake's 2011 track "Myr" that really did the whole banjo/metal thing right. …so much so that I kind of expected other bands to follow suit and there to be a sudden influx of banjocore.

A little more than halfway through "Out From Below," the opening track from Sylosis' Monolith , the band breaks out what must be one of the best Metallica riffs that Metallica never wrote; then, just twenty seconds later, the band suddenly-but-seamlessly transitions into what might actually be the best Metallica riff that Metallica never wrote.

REVOCATION, DIRGE WITHIN, VILDHJARTA, AND FORGED IN FLAME OFF SHOCKWAVE FESTIVAL BILL

The newest edition to the summer festival circuit, the Shockwave Festival, may have just gotten a little, um, smaller: headliners Fear Factory released a revised admat for the tour on their Facebook page which does not feature either Dirge Within or Forged in Flame, and Dirge Within have apparently removed all the trek's dates from their own Facebook page (I'd check but I'm afraid of getting Facebook cooties).
