Our Religion finds much inspiration in its Texas roots, and singer/songwriter Ric Swanson infuses the band's songs with this, resulting in a rich style of Americana music deeply rooted in the Lonestar State. Swanson and guitarist Chris Watkins first began making music together in the early '80s, playing in professional pop/rock bands such as Nightwork, with whom they released an album in 1986. Along with twin brothers Jeff and Jerry Doyle, Swanson and Watkins eventually moved away from their pop/rock past and formed Our Religion, an Americana-style band with a roots rock/folk edge to it. The Texas natives found inspiration in their homeland as well as Texas songwriters like Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Shake Russell, and Lyle Lovett, not to mention legendary songwriters like Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and John Cougar Mellencamp. Our Religion recorded its debut album with Grammy-winning producer Marius Perron and released it independently in January 2001 on its own label, Right Track Records. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
