O'Neal McKnight Biography

Raised in a mobile home in Lynchburg, SC, O'Neal McKnight (born Rodney O'Neal McKnight) spent much of his childhood dancing and showing off for his friends. As soon as he was old enough, he saved up his money and moved to New York, where -- thanks to a couple of connections and his own distinct dress -- he was able to get a job as a high-profile celebrity stylist. Not wanting to limit himself to the world of fashion, however, McKnight soon began working on his own music, and in mid-2007 his song "Check Your Coat," which featured guest rhymes from Greg Nice of Nice & Smooth (and was later remixed by Mick Boogie) came out. The single continued to pick up steam, thanks in part to McKnight's Michael Jackson- and Prince-inspired vocals and his own dance moves, as well as its inclusion on various television specials. In the spring of 2008 his debut full-length, Prom: 2088, hit shelves. ~ Marisa Brown, All Music Guide
