Latin rock band from El Salvador Nativa Genario was formed in 1995 by Roberto Guzman, Oscar Rodríguez, and Benedicto Morataya, later joined by René Avalos. The band's self-titled debut album was released in 1996, getting its song "Abajo del Agua" played by several radio stations that were not used to having Salvadorian rock numbers on the air. Nativa Genario participated in the local festival SalvaRock in 1996 and 1997, played along with Café Tacuba and Aterciopelados at Concierto de las Americas, and had the opportunity to open for Men at Work and Def Leppard.
