What The Critics Say

If Morgan Page isn't one the hottest producer/remixers in North America, it's not for lack of trying. In 2006, Page unleashed Cease and Desist, a self-released, totally unauthorized remix set that took the club scene by storm. Rather than prosecute, the afflicted labels put Page to work, and a plethora of his legit remixes began flooding the clubs and headed up the Billboard charts. Elevate could be considered either Page's follow-up or debut (depending on how one wishes to treat Desist), a baker's dozen of remixes and productions, including some of his biggest hits. Among them are two of his chart-toppers, his remix of Delerium's "Angelicus" and remix -- with David Garcia -- of Nelly Furtado's "Maneater." Sadly though, his smash makeover of Jody Watley's "I Want Your Love" is conspicuous by its absence, as is his recent remodel for Stevie Nicks. In any case, Page loves the ladies, especially the ladies with vocals to die for, and this set shows just why the feeling is mutual, as both his productions and remixes absolutely coddle female vocalists, turning each one into the ultimate diva. Playing to Lissie's folkie forte, Page wraps her in slide guitar and forceful beats on "The Longest Road," and brings out the mystery of Camila Grey with exotic Eastern tinges on "One Day." Of course, Page isn't totally fem-centric, as his sparkling "Call My Name" (featuring Tyler James) and his sweep of new wave on "Fade Away" (featuring Matt Wasley) well illustrate. Across this set, Page's own productions are stunning, the remixes awesome and just as diverse a bunch. Club fans will be familiar with most of them, although the bonus Deadmau5 remix of "The Longest Road" is rather sought-after. A killer album, and a great intro to a man fast becoming a legend. ~ Jo-Ann Greene, All Music Guide
