Sleep Sound in Jesus is exactly what it sounds like -- a gentle, soothing album of Christian lullabies. Michael Card wrote all the songs and performs the vocals with Betsy Hernandez. Ordinarily, having all the songs on an album blend together is a weakness, but for this album, it's a strength. The songs work together to create an atmosphere of calm in the often stormy lives of families with infants. Card uses a light touch, keeping the instruments acoustic and the vocals soft. The album's message of love and belonging is simple and sweet, without the saccharineness of many child-oriented albums. It would be a welcome addition to any family's music collection. ~ Melinda Hill, All Music Guide
Nice offering from a singer/songwriter with some surprising similarity to Phil Keaggy in terms of sound and style. Slightly alternative rock sound, but strong lyrically in terms of bearing witness of Christ. Listen for guest turns by Christine Dente, Dan Haseltine, and Phil Keaggy. A good addition to the CCM rock fan's library. ~ Dacia A. Blodgett-Williams, All Music Guide
An excursion into Celtic music, Michael Card does well to convert his glossy brand of acoustic CCM into another hue on the praise & worship spectrum, expanding his textural palette while not alienating his fan base. Certainly not likely to be mistaken for a truly traditional Celtic set akin to the Chieftains, as Card steers the project into rather safe territory with neither the instrumental virtuosity nor the vigor of conventional artists in the genre, his reinterpretation of traditional Celtic melodies are fresh and appealing, if not entirely groundbreaking. Undeniably pleasant, with all the fiddles, harps, flutes, and pipes you might expect, Card just doesn't have the vocal expressiveness or enthusiasm to keep the arrangements from occasionally sounding somewhat flat and stilted. Still, for fans of contemporary Christian music wanting a slight change of pace but not a dramatic departure, Starkindler should altogether suffice. ~ Matt Fink, All Music Guide
Brother to Brother is a beautiful duet album, featuring Michael Card's trademark pop sound spike with worldbeat flourishes. The results may be a little uneven, but it's always engaging and frequently lovely. ~ Rodney Batdorf, All Music Guide
