Marc Russo's first recording since leaving The Yellowjackets showcases his alto backed by sparse funk-oriented rhythms provided by a variety of anonymous-sounding rhythm sections. Russo draws his inspiration from David Sanborn although some of his own personality comes through in his fiery solos. Most of the originals on this effort (with the exception of "School") are not too memorable but Russo can certainly blow and, with better writers, he should have a worthwhile solo career. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
