What The Critics Say

Despite its sophomoric inclinations and the limitations of its sound, female duo L'Trimm can usually be counted on to deliver club-oriented pop/rap that is hardly remarkable, but likeable enough. With this album, Tigra and Bunny D. attempt to evolve and pretty much move away from the Miami-bass sound for which they've been known. Though not quite as appealing as Grab It or Drop That Bottom, Groovy isn't without its pleasures -- including the rap/house number "Glamour Girls," a remake of the Archies' 1960s' pop hit "Sugar Sugar" and the new jack swing-inspired title song. Meanwhile, the influence of groups like C&C Music Factory and Snap is hard to miss on "Jungle," "Snap, Crackle, Pop" and "Get Loose." L'Trimm's popularity in club circles proved to be short-lived, and by the mid-'90s, the duo was barely a footnote in rap and dance music history. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

What The Critics Say

From their giggly, cutesy bimbo image to their hook-laden, club-oriented sound, South Florida's L'Trimm is exactly the type of pop/rap for which hardcore hip-hoppers have nothing but contempt. Be that as it may, the adolescent female duo's second album, Drop That Bottom, is an often entertaining and enjoyable effort that works quite well as club music. Like L'Trimm's 1988 debut, the album must be taken for exactly what it is: pure, unapologetic, mindless fun. True, rappers Tigra and Bunny D. hardly possess the rapping skills of Queen Latifah or MC Lyte -- far from it -- but their sense of fun brings to life such infectious fare as "My Heart Went Boom," "Double Trouble" and a remix of Grab It's hit title song. L'Trimm may get no respect in "the hood," but on the dance floor, Drop That Bottom definitely has its place. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide

What The Critics Say

L'Trimm was the sort of pop-rap group that hip-hop's hardcore loves to hate. Tigra and Bunny D weren't great rappers, and their detractors argued that they made a mockery of rap with their cutesy, girlish image and their frivolous, often silly lyrics. But then, the Miami-based duo wasn't trying to be the female equivalent of Run-D.M.C. -- its albums were aimed at dance-pop audiences, and L'Trimm didn't expect to impress fans of hardcore rap any more than Poison expected to be compared to Metallica. Grab It!, L'Trimm's debut album, must be taken for what it is: silly, goofy, escapist fun. From "Sexy" and "Better Yet L'Trimm" to the hit "Cars With the Boom," L'Trimm's very pop-minded, club-oriented songs are infectious and entertaining despite the group's obvious limitations. No one who's seriously into hip-hop would think for a minute that Tigra or Bunny have great rapping skills, but for this type of crossover album, you don't need them. You need the right hooks and beats, and this 1988 release succeeds on that level. L'Trimm went on to record a few more albums, but Grab It! remains its most consistent and appealing effort. ~ Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
