Kari Wuhrer took her first big steps into the professional music world on MTV, working as the sexy co-host for the station's popular game show Remote Control. She was only 17 at the time, and maybe the job's credentials didn't involve singing, but it was MTV. Her acting in an earlier role in the movie Fire with Fire helped her get the co-hosting deal. Later Wuhrer landed lasting spots in television shows like the science fiction program Sliders, and the hot teen series Beverly Hills 90210. A few more films followed, including Anaconda and the Crossing Guard, which had her working with influential stars such as Jennifer Lopez and Jack Nicholson. During each step in Wuhrer's career, music stayed close to her heart. Finally, in 1999 she finished work on a solo debut album. Brookfield, CT, native Kari Samantha Wuhrer was born in 1967. Knowing at a very young age that she wanted more out of life than the normal nine to five job, she began writing songs when she was only 11, then started taking acting lessons when she was 13. Before long she was in New York, and soon signed with the talent division of the world-famous Ford's Model Agency. Sometimes she also performed with a hard punk band called Freudian Slip, though she was very underage to be in some of the places the group appeared at. Thanks to her agency, Wuhrer did a few roles in commercials, and then in 1986 scored her first spot in a movie, the above mentioned Fire with Fire. From there she went to work for MTV, and then back to more acting lessons, this time in both New York and London. Throughout the '90s, Wuhrer kept steady parts in films and television series. In 1998 she signed with Rick Rubin's Del-Fi Record label and went to work on her first recordings. Her debut full-length offering, Shiny, was released in 1999. Some of the pop/rock numbers from the album are "Normal," "Better Off," "Come and Get It," and "Take Me Now."
