Former Kansas band member John Elefante released Defying Gravity in 1999. The album, being a blend of CCM, adult contemporary, and alternative Christian, offers an eclectic assortment of musical stylings. Included in this are "Pass the Flame," featuring a soft folk-rock sound with pop-country influences, "Home With a View," which is CCM set at a moderate pace with a catchy melody, and the rock-oriented "Don't Leave the Band." Elefante served as a co-writer on all ten of the project's tracks. Lyrically, the songs range from the wonder of God's love in "The Way That You Love Me" to childlike faith in "If You Just Believe." ~ Ashleigh Kittle, All Music Guide
