Known originally as the Music Machine, the trio that would become Instant Funk were a top-flight backup band before scoring Gold with their single, "Got My Mind Made Up." In '79 they jumped to MFSB guitarist Norman Harris' Gold Mind label, where they tracked "Let Me Party With You." When Gold Mind went down, Salsoul picked up "Got My Mind Made Up," a disco funk dance tune that gave fame to the line, "Say What?," part of the dance club vernacular in the heart of the disco years.
