The Trio

What The Critics Say

Of accordionist Frank Marocco's four recordings for Discovery and Trend during 1979-1982, this LP (unfortunately out of print) is the one to get. Marocco plays piano/organ lines with his right hand and basslines with his left, displaying remarkable fluidity. Assisted by Ray Pizzi (who proves to be equally brilliant on soprano, tenor, alto, flute, and bassoon) and the supportive drumming of Joey Baron, Marocco digs into two originals and six jazz standards (including Wayne Shorter's "One by One" and Chick Corea's "La Fiesta"). Pizzi's bassoon on "All the Things You Are" is a highlight, but each of the eight numbers has its memorable moments. One of the best jazz accordion records ever made, and great swinging fun overall. ~ Scott Yanow, All Music Guide
