With a sound that draws on influences from the Pixies, R.E.M., and the Replacements, to Fleetwood Mac, DrugMoney takes engaging and familiar pop arrangements and plays them with a fiery intensity. The Asheville, North Carolina band was formed as a power duo in 2001 when former solo acoustic artist Fisher Meehan joined forces with drummer Paul Conrad. The group caught the attention of Hybrid Recordings at a CBGB's show and quickly signed with the label. Bassist Bill Reynolds of the Sub Pop band the Blue Rags soon signed on. Before entering the studio to record the band's debut, Conrad left the band and the Blue Rags' Mike Rhodes took over drumming duties for the record. DrugMoney soon found a permanent drummer in Jamie Stirling, as well as adding keyboardist Tyler Ramsey. The group recorded their first full-length, Mtn Cty Jnk in New York with renowned producer Wharton Tiers. The album -- a propulsive mix of power pop and Frank Black -- was released in January of 2004. ~ Charles Spano, Rovi
