Produced by Brad Wood, One is like a crash course in the history of women in rock -- at various points throughout the record Diane Izzo echoes everyone from Patti Smith to P.J. Harvey to Liz Phair, and although she's yet to achieve the same peaks as any of those icons, there's considerable promise here. An undeniably powerful vocalist, Izzo also shows promise as a writer, although at times her lyrics are much too self-consciously poetic for comfort; still, despite its rough patches, One succeeds on the strength of its passion and intensity -- once Izzo firmly establishes her own musical identity, she'll be a force to reckon with. ~ Chuck Donkers, All Music Guide
