What The Critics Say

The Warhol-inspired artwork on Deathray's self-titled debut album is fair warning that the band trades in cute, catchy new-wave inflected power pop, and "Only Lies," "My Lunatic Friends," and "Check It Over" provide plenty of chugging guitars, wobbly synth lines, deadpan vocals, and radio-friendly harmonies. However, quieter and quirkier songs like "Now That I Am Blind," "What Would You Do," "Baby Polygon," and "Legionnaires in Doubt" reveal the band's range, which is wider than it might appear at face value. A well-written and appealing first effort, Deathray showcases the group's potential. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
