Album: Gaz Coombes, "Here Come the Bombs" (Hot Fruit Records)

In some places Coombes apes a miniaturized version of his old band, in others -- especially on the single "Hot Fruit" and "Universal Cinema," which clocks in about midway point -- he channels Radiohead circa "In Rainbows," right down to a cockeyed Phil Selway-esque shuffle beat and nimble-footed, shifting bass line on the latter that could only have been purloined from Colin Greenwood's coat pocket.
