After nearly three months of trial and seven full days of deliberations, a jury convicted Paula Hornberger, George Cavallo and Joel Streinz of conspiracy on Friday for being part of the flipping fraud centered on Southwest Florida.

The jurors also convicted Hornberger and Cavallo of one count each related to homes they bought with Cavallo's brother Rich Bobka, the chief lieutenant in the scheme.

In both cases, Hornberger and Cavallo were found guilty of lying to banks, overstating their monthly income by multiples in order to get loans to buy the houses with Bobka's guidance.

The conspiracy charge — a count that all the other 16 defendants in the case already have pleaded guilty to — carries a maximum sentence of five years.

But the sentences for the other "substantive" counts against Cavallo and Hornberger will be determined by other factors, including the economic loss to the banks. Read More
