Finland in the '90s produced more than its share of noteworthy bands, and even some of the less-well-known groups had a definite something going. Such is the case with Coo, a five-piece dedicated to it's own brand of post-shoegaze/psych exploration, with a clear nod to the abilities of early Verve in particular. Its membership: drummer Antti Alen, bassist Turo Kuningas, guitarist Jussi Ristikaarto, singer/keyboardist Antti Tietäväinen, and guitarist Skau Virtanen. Initially the band debuted with a striking standalone track "Zavudi," appearing on a Finnish and later an American compilation in 1995. The following year the quintet released the four track Heavenly Blue EP on Tangerine Records. Following that, however, the group more or less fell silent after occasional gigging in its homeland and recording some demos, but, aside from a random update on it's website every so often, pretty much existing in complete stasis as of 2001. ~ Ned Raggett, Rovi
