"When i arrived at the mercury lounge a little after 8 char was already in the mostly empty performance area in the back enjoying the pop stylings of an impossibly young-looking (and quite decent) pop band called spanish prisoners. they were followed by the extremely affable (and lumberjackily-attractive) canadian folky pop group wilderness of manitoba , who created their hauntingly pretty sound by weaving their combined vocal harmonies over mountainesk sounds of banjo, cello, mandolin and guitar, and striking a perfect balance between mellow and intense..." [ musikati ] One night after opening for Femi Kuti , Lord Huron headlined his own show at Mercury Lounge with a lineup consisting of North Highlands , The Wilderness of Manitoba & Spanish Prisoners.

cloud cult , an experimental indie band from minneapolis, knows about loss firsthand. lead singer craig minowa and his wife connie minowa, who paints during performances, unexpectedly lost their two year old son in 2002. this event left them the couple (and the band) devastated. to work through his grief, craig minowa crafted a number of highly personal and heart-wrenching songs that eventually led to the creation of several albums, including the feel good ghosts (tea-partying through tornadoes). perhaps the one that strikes hardest at the heart is the ghost inside our house , which is all about the wish that once death occurs, it doesn't mean that an existence is over.

Cloud Cult Though I just saw them live at the end of October , I didn't even realize Craig was sick until I went to Clould Cult 's site to see what they were up to in relation to the just-announced tour dates.
