The San Francisco quintet Box Set continues to deliver sweeping melodies on their fourth album Lemonade, a breezy and earnest effort since 1998's Thread. Nothing shy of the sounds of fellow American trad rockers like the Samples, Wilco, the Freddy Jones Band, and Guster, Box Set is wholesome in attaining the purest acoustic beauty. This certain simplicity is quite commonly found in such down-home branded music, but that's part of the attraction. The concentration is passionate, especially on such tracks as "Wendy Ann" and "Argument." To strip emotion bare and to compose a raw musical intensity only throbbing through the naturalness of acoustics is what makes Lemonade a pleasant piece. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, All Music Guide
On their major label debut, Box Set spotlight the honest and involving songwriting of frontmen Jim Brunberg and Jeff Pehrson. ~ Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide
