"One of the things people have attached to me is that I'm always changing, but I think I'm just evolving, shedding some things and taking others along with me. There are things that I've taken from the first songs that I wrote when I was 15. I like doo-wop. I stick it in all the time. I like that finger picking I learned when I lived in England. I can't play much blues at all, but the little bit I play is slap and pushed strings that all comes from Davey Graham and Bert Jansch. A lot of things I learned about rhythm from African musicians were useful and made sense to me."
