Albert Stinson's promising career ended abruptly in the late '60s. A prodigious bassist with a huge tone and a sharp attack, Stinson had distinguished himself through his work with Chico Hamilton and Terry Gibbs. Stinson played piano, trombone and tuba as a child before turning to bass at 14. He worked with Gibbs and Hamilton in the early and mid-'60s, then was Charles Lloyd's first bassist in 1965. Stinson did sessions on the West Coast in 1966, then worked and toured with John Handy and Larry Coryell. He did no dates as a leader but can be heard on Hamilton CD reissues. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi
