Agalloch – “Faustian Echoes”

- Source: Stereogum

Pacific Northwest dark metal legends Agalloch follow up their magnificent 2010 LP, Marrow Of The Spirit , with an EP, Faustian Echoes , which will feature one song, in two parts, and is (according to the band) "based on Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's epic masterpiece 'Faust. The song is epic even by Agalloch standards; at 21:34 it's the longest track ever recorded by the band. And while it may be broken into two parts, there have got to be more than a dozen distinct sections here — so far my favorite is the instrumental breakdown that comes in at 6:13 and builds over two minutes, but the torrential hailstorm that closes out the song is pretty knee-buckling. The EP will be released concurrently with a North American tour. Don't miss the band — an Agalloch appearance is a rare thing indeed, and more importantly, they're one of the best live bands in the word. Check out "Faustian Echoes."

AGALLOCH ANNOUNCE MORE U.S. TOUR DATES, NEW EP RELEASE

- Source: Metal Sucks

Agalloch already promised to make our summer a whole lot more wintery with a string of summer U.S. tour they announced last month , but July and August just got a whole lot more cold and blustery in the Northern Hemisphere: a bunch of dates have been added to the now 31-day trek, making this the first time I can remember (possible ever?) the band has done a full, proper U.S. tour instead of a short string of dates in one region at a time.

Of all the great injustices in the world (oppressive leaders in the Middle East, the war in Darfur, Eastern European sex slave trafficking, the Yankees, etc), one stands gravely ignored: that Agalloch are more popular than Insomnium.

AGALLOCH ANNOUNCE EASTERN U.S. TOUR

- Source: crustcake

A while back, I commented that 2010 was going to be the year of Ludicra, and despite a certain Norwegian black metal band dropping the ball, they still were one of the most critically lauded groups of the year. 2011 could be the year of Agalloch, who Aesop Dekker also plays drums for.

AGALLOCH ARE COMING EAST

It's pretty rare that a band touring one single region of the country they're already from is news; then again, not many bands are the mighty Agalloch.

THERE WAS A BIT of an outcry, among those who care about these sorts of things, when Agalloch's new album Marrow of the Spirit earned a lofty 8.5 rating on Pitchfork, but failed to earn that website's coveted "Best New Music" tag.

AGALLOCH STOKE THE “MIDWINTER FIRES” WITH ANOTHER NEW SONG

- Source: Metal Sucks

It just hits the nail on the head; if you've ever read any interviews with the band members (like the one Brandon conducted with John Haughm ) you're aware of the role nature plays in their lives and their music, and "dark metal" really captures their all-encompassing, micro-genre-busting sound perfectly.
