7 Sons of Soul

7 Sons of Soul Biography

Merging contemporary urban sensibilities with the traditional gospel quartet sound, 7 Sons of Soul bring a refreshing twist to the gospel genre. The group was formed in Washington, D.C., after singers Cliff Jones and Deonte Gray had completed recording a song, "Run On," in the studio and, pleased with the results, decided to officially assemble a group and complete a whole album. Jones and Gray drafted singer Dave "DaveyBoy" Lindsey along with drummer Paul "Buggy" Edwards, keyboardist Sam Kendrick, and bassist Nathaniel Fields, and 7 Sons of Soul were born. Lindsey ended up producing and writing the bulk of the material recorded, and the eventual result was a 14-track album of gospel, ranging from traditional to modern, and even though the group veered at times to a straight R&B sound, nothing secular in nature was attempted. The finished project was taken to Verity Records, which released it unchanged in 2005 as 7 Sons of Soul. ~ Steve Leggett, All Music Guide
